My Qualifications

I have been a professional dog trainer for almost 30 years.  I have conducted my own dog training classes and offered private lessons for solving issues and offering basic obedience. I also worked with Eastern Kentucky University offering dog training classes for families under the continuing education program.  All these experiences bring a high level of expertise and experience to my qualifications for running this business.  The ability to read the body language of dogs allows me to integrate them into a stable, safe and loving environment in my home.

As a full time graphite pencil artist I have created more than 1,000 commissions over the past 15 years. Each breed I draw is researched to learn the breed standard, their personality traits, genetic behavior and daily needs which has been invaluable when I meet, greet and work with new dogs coming to my retirement home.

Finally as a former home renovator, I have the knowledge to make my home and property safe and pet friendly.  I have created what I like to call “doggy speed dating areas” which are safe contained areas outside and inside my home.  These areas and enclosures allow dogs to be moved around throughout the day getting new sights, smells, sounds and doggy neighbors educating them and incorporating them into my pack.

How did I come up with the title “Until We Meet Again”?

Growing up in Canada as a little girl one of my favorite TV programs was Dale Evans, Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger. The theme song “Happy Trails” was sung by them in the 1950’s TV program. My Mother use to play a 45 record of this song for me which I would sing for hours. I find myself to this day still humming this song.

Some of the Lyrics to this song:

“Happy trails to you,
Until we meet again.
Happy trails to you,
Keep smiling until then”.

Where did the idea come from?

This is a four part answer.

First, I always loved the Kentucky Thoroughbred Retirement Horse Farm idea. A place where horses could live out the rest of their lives after their careers have ended.

Secondly, I always wanted to do something with animals but was not sure on which path to travel.

Thirdly, my Mom is still alive and living in a nursing home now in Canada and her love of dogs was evident my whole life.  She to this day still shares her life with dogs, although they are only toys, but real to her. It showed me the continued love and comfort these animals can provide to anyone at any age and was an inspiration for this idea.

Finally, I have rescued three dogs that have come to me in the past couple of years.  Each one has provided unconditional love and support and I cannot imagine my life without them. It would be remiss of me not to mention that I also  have 7 rescue cats which provide an endless source of entertainment for me and my dogs.

These four thoughts merged together and it occurred to me if I feel this way about my dogs and cats then others do too.  We should be making every effort to give them choices to stay together which is part of the “Until We Meet Again” mission.
